New York is one of the most populated states in America, home to many public and private high schools. Given the vast number of schools in the state, several have developed unique and vintage logos, making it challenging to narrow down a top five. Ultimately, the top five high schools feature fictional and real characters that carry historical significance, embodying the region's rich heritage and diverse culture.

Top Five

In New York, the top five high school vintage logos feature a diverse range of fictional and real characters. Each logo has a deeper meaning, representing the school's brand.

  • Notre Dame High School Jugglers (Utica, NY)
    • Description: The Notre Dame High School Jugglers' nickname originates from the French medieval legend of "Le Jongleur de Notre Dame," inspiring the school to design a colorful cartoon jester juggling balls as their athletics logo.
    • Opinion: There are many different high schools across the country called Notre Dame, but the one in Utica, New York, sets itself apart with its unique nickname, the Jugglers, and its logo of a vibrant jester tossing up balls.

  • Potsdam High School Sandstoners (Potsdam, NY)
    • Description: The Potsdam High School Sandstoners logo, drawing on the local reddish-brown Potsdam sandstone, reflects the school's nickname and honors the area's geological and historical significance.
    • Opinion: The Sandstoners logo has a cartoony and goofy feel to it, but its outdatedness gives it a classic look, making it the primary emblem for Potsdam High School.

  • Scotia-Glenville High School Tartans (Scotia, NY)
    • Description: The Tartans logo of Scotia-Glenville High School, featuring a man playing a bagpipe, honors the region's Scottish heritage and symbolizes the traditional Scottish plaid patterns.
    • Opinion: The vintage Tartans logo is very detailed, showing a man dressed in plaid playing the bagpipe, representing a sense of pride and identity associated with Scottish clans.

  • Sleepy Hollow High School Horsemen (Sleepy Hollow, NY)
    • Description: Instead of having a basic mascot, Sleepy Hollow High School embraces the theme of the famous story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" by showcasing the Horseman as the face (or rather, the faceless) of its brand, highlighted by its classic logo.
    • Opinion: The Sleepy Hollow High School Horsemen logo is one of the most unique school names and logos in the country, playing into the story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," which strengthens the brand due to the tale's popularity.

  • Warrensburg High School Burghers (Warrensburg, NY)
    • Description: While Frankfort High School in Frankfort, Indiana, is known as the Hot Dogs, Warrensburg High School is called the Burghers; however, their logo and mascot depict a man symbolizing the people of Warrensburg.
    • Opinion: The lumberjack character in the Warrensburg High School Burghers logo has an old-school charm, and when combined with the school nickname "Burghers," which represents the town's people, it creates a special and memorable high school brand.

Honorable Mentions

All three of the honorable mentions were tough to leave off the top five list because they fully embraced the vintage logo design. Each school has a cleaner, more modern look while preserving the old-school feel.
  • Argyle Central Jr/Sr High School Scots (Argyle, NY)
  • Connetquot High School Thunderbirds (Bohemia, NY)
  • Oyster Bay High School Baymen (Oyster Bay, NY)
