As one of the oldest states in America, Massachusetts boasts high schools with branding that reflects its rich history. Many schools have chosen to preserve an old-school, vintage look rather than adopting a more modern style. The top five vintage high school logos in Massachusetts best embrace the state's history, showcasing it through their branding.

Top Five

Massachusetts had so many schools with vintage logos that it took time to decide the top five. Eventually, five were chosen for their unique logos and nicknames or backgrounds that set them apart.

  • Ashland High School Clockers (Ashland, MA)
    • Description: In front of the giant blue "A" is a smirking clock with sunglasses, designed as a comet, serving as the emblem for the Ashland High School Clockers.
    • Opinion: The Clockers have one of the coolest nicknames and logos in America, with a red, white, and blue colorway and a clock smirking while wearing stylish sunglasses as the face of the brand.

  • Hoosac Valley High School Hurricanes (Cheshire, MA)
    • Description: An old-school lightning bolt, dressed in an HV sweater, strikes down next to a rain cloud to create a storm, representing Hoosac Valley High School's nickname, the Hurricanes.
    • Opinion: The Hoosac Valley High School Hurricanes logo has everything a vintage logo needs: a lightning bolt with a face and a sweater with the school’s HV initials.

  • Millbury High School Woolies (Millbury, MA)
    • Description: In a maroon, gold, and white circular logo, a fierce sheep stands, pumping its fists as the mascot for Millbury High School Woolies.
    • Opinion: The logo stands out as one of the best vintage-style designs due to its classic aesthetics, bold lines, traditional colors, sheep mascot, and attention to detail, all creating a nostalgic look for the Millbury High School Woolies.

  • North Quincy High School Raiders (North Quincy, MA)
    • Description: The mascot, Yakoo, dressed as an American colonist to go with the school's nickname, the Raiders, wears a tricorn hat and carries a flag with the school's initials, NQ, for North Quincy.
    • Opinion: The pilgrim logo, with its signature mascot name, has a classic look that pays tribute to the settlers who came to America, despite being a recently designed emblem.

  • Salem High School Witches (Salem, MA)
    • Description: Salem, known for its witch trials, inspired the local high school to adopt the nickname "Witches" and create a logo featuring a witch's face with "Salem" written across the red and black hat.
    • Opinion: The witch’s smile and overall presence are super creepy, creating an intimidation factor due to the logo’s design and the historical context of the Salem witch trials.

Honorable Mentions

The honorable mentions list from Massachusetts could easily make the top five in other states. Though they missed out on the top five here, they still deserve recognition for being among the very best vintage logos in the state.
  • New Bedford High School Whalers (New Bedford, MA)
  • Scituate High School Sailors (Scituate, MA)
  • Sutton High School Sammies and Suzies (Sutton, MA)
